17 items a digital nomad needs to carry
You have to be minimalist and, at the same time, fulfill basic needs
Hello! As I announced on Friday, this newsletter will be sent on Tuesdays and Fridays, always at 2 pm (GMT, 11 am BrasÃlia time). Hope you like the new days.
When we live in a fixed home, we often keep a lot of junk that we never use.
In the life of a digital nomad, you only need to carry the essentials; after all, you will be moving all the time.
Today I write a list of what I've learned so far that a digital nomad needs to survive:
A functional notebook (I have an eight-year-old that is slow and only works plugged in. I need to stop being so cheap and buy a new one).
A Kindle (I carried all my physical books to my parents' house. The Kindle made my backpacks much lighter).
A kit of meds (fortunately, the only one I've had to take so far is for a hangover).
Nail clippers (I keep them in the medicine kit)
Scissors (suddenly, you need to cut something. I leave it inside the medicine kit).
Sunscreen (I would have sunburned myself without it in Porto Alegre in January. My friends from Rio Grande do Sul who read this newsletter will agree).
Sunglasses (I'm myopic. Unfortunately, I use this one less than I'd like because it's annoying to carry both).
Belt bag (handy for long walks or places that are not 100% safe)
JBL sound box (I can't listen to music without a box anymore. The JBL Go 3 is the right size. I miss my turntable, but it's impossible to have her as a digital nomad).
International card (Wise is the best option I encountered).
Ear protectors (unfortunately, I didn't know how to fit this item in my ears and haven't been using it, disturbing my sleep because of a renovation in the building I'm in).
Sleeping mask (fortunately, my current Airbnb protects well from light, but in other apartments it will be necessary).
Earphone (the kind that shields external sound. Ideal for the gym).
Umbrella (ideally an umbrella that you can carry in your backpack) or a raincoat.
Universal charger (this is a classic travel tip).
A good suitcase (your life needs to fit in it).
Proper hiking shoes (last Saturday, I walked 18 km).
I am looking around and don't remember anything else that isn't so obvious. In the following months, I make a new list of essential discoveries or items I've stopped carrying.
Do you have other tips? Write in the comments.
Have a nice week.
That’s a good list!
In my trip, I carry also a clothesline rope, for drying clothes, and a head lamp, to read at a night bus (or just to search something)
