I got my first remote job and I'm really excited
No Direction Home aims to be a reference newsletter for those looking for more flexible lifestyles
In today's edition, I want to contextualize this newsletter for new subscribers and remind old ones.
I worked for more than ten years in large newsrooms in Brazil. In 2015, I worked as a freelancer and really enjoyed the experience of having time and space autonomy. However, I received a more financially advantageous proposal and returned to the day-to-day work of the newsroom.
The pandemic has exposed me to how many jobs can be done remotely. I fit the model perfectly. With the in-person return from 2022, I was disappointed.
The confinement of the pandemic has also affected me deeply. As things got better, I couldn't stand to stay home for too long. I needed to travel, travel, travel.
At the end of the year, in extreme courage, I resigned, left my home, ended a long relationship, and became a digital nomad.
I only did that, which is the tip I give everyone, because I had medium-term financial security. In addition to this newsletter, I started to organize my life around freelancing and looking for new projects.
But it's extremely tough when all your life is unstable. I recommend everyone do things at different times. Go in stages. I didn't have anything fixed anymore. And that takes a toll on the mind.
As much as I had the financial pillow, the instability of freelancers tormented me. Of these sorts that life offers us, in March, I received a proposal to work as a social media for SUMAÚMA, an ambitious journalistic project that covers the Amazon region. And 100% remote work, a regime that this newsletter is a big advocate of.
Now I will have the necessary stability to continue my life as a digital nomad. I'm really excited about the opportunity.
No Direction Home aims to be a reference newsletter for those looking for more flexible lifestyles.
From a personal and reflective perspective, I tell my life's challenges, adventures, and good stories as a nomad.
And, from now on, in addition to bringing reflections on the future of work, I will include in the routine of the texts what it is like to work remotely in a fixed job.

Love SUMAÚMA project! If you ´ve got that proposal, that´s because your talent deserves. Congrats and have fun!
