Anywhere office, an ongoing revolution
Realizing we can work from anywhere feels almost like when the working class realized they could organize strikes, create unions, and demand workers' rights
Neither work from home, nor hybrid, nor remote, much less in person. The best term to define how we can work is "anywhere office". And this is indeed a reality. Since I became a nomad and a remote worker, I have worked from:
Dozens of Airbnbs
Airbnb receptions while waiting for check-in
Dozens of cafes
Dozens of Ubers
Coworking spaces
The beach
Convention centers
Parks
Buses
Several cities like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Guarujá, Avaré, Bauru, Budapest, London.
The anywhere office is so fascinating. When I was on a bus, and late to start work, I could get started on many tasks using my phone. While a mobile phone may not be as efficient as a laptop, it can handle numerous tasks perfectly. From Canva to social media post publishers, the mobile versions of these platforms are getting better and better.
The anywhere office also means that it is possible to work in person. Some people prefer that way. However, I am not one of those people. I concentrate more when working alone and can accomplish the same task with the same quality as if I were working in person.
The anywhere office has changed how we perceive the world of work. We can work from anywhere. Realizing this feels almost like when the working class realized they could organize strikes, create unions, and demand workers' rights. We can work from anywhere and choose job opportunities that offer this flexibility. It's an ongoing revolution. Companies that don't adapt will lose the best talents.
Welcome to the post-pandemic world of work.
