In this post, I write some characteristics that can help anyone who wants to become a digital nomad. I never like to set anything in stone: it's not because you don't have most of these characteristics that you won't necessarily adapt. But having them can make your life easier.
Be free
The fewer objects you have, the better. Ideally, your life needs to fit into a suitcase and a backpack. (Read more).
Adaptation
You will always be on the move and everything will be different: food, climate, language, and where you will live. Problems will pop up all the time. In my second Airbnb, the bathroom flooded with every shower. I had to take a two-minute express shower. (Read more).
Organization
Each trip requires thinking about a lot of things: housing, passage, how long to stay in that place, carrying your suitcase, etc. Furthermore, you still have your work to deliver.
Economy
The life of a digital nomad is generally uncertain. The more you can save, the better. (Of course, it's different when you have a fixed remote job, earn in dollars and live in a cheap country. In any case, saving is always good).
Lonely
Loneliness will always accompany you if you are alone in your digital nomadism. Therefore, you need to learn to deal with this feeling, preferably without calling your ex at dawn or spending hours and hours on social media. (Read more).
Communicative
One way to solve loneliness is to be friendly and make professional (or romantic) contacts wherever you go. So go to museums, parks, bars, and parties, and don't hesitate to start a conversation with people you find interesting.
Walking
You are a nomad. Do you know what nomadic tribes used to do? They walked from place to place. A lot. So enjoying walking is a welcome feature. (I'm not telling you to walk from Paris to Berlin, of course, but you'll always be walking through airports, train stations, going to the market, etc. Also, walking around the new city will make you feel more at home; it will save you money on shipping and will be a healthy habit).
In the coming weeks, I will unravel each topic in this text.
